Feed the Hungry

St. Thomas’ parishioners participate in and provide links for us to the many community outreach opportunities listed here. Several even serve in leadership roles in these various organizations!

If you see something that piques your interest, please contact the individuals listed. They would love to share their passions with you, and hopefully help you find a meaningful way to engage as well. And if you have an opportunity you would like to bring to the attention of the parish, let us know that as well!

Brighton Food Cupboard

Leader: Lisa Hand (send e-mail)

St. Thomas' collects food to support this ministry. ** NOVEMBER & DECEMBER 2019 We're collecting TOILETRIES! ** Great! You're interested in helping Rochester & Brighton Area residents with food insecurity! St Thomas' had a wonderful parishioner named Mary Tower a few years back. Mary was a force and kept us involved in a food donation program called SEM/FISH. That joined with Food Link and then we learned that the Jewish Family Service had a thriving food cupboard which had also joined Food Link. They reached out to Brighton churches and schools, and St Thomas' saw it as a good fit. Are you interested in helping right at the food cupboard? They can use volunteers to stock donations or take orders and bag groceries for a client. BFC ph#271-5355. Hours are 9am-noon weekdays. We have easy ways to help out at St T's too. We sponsor a Stock -a-Shelf every 3 months. We call BFC & find out what is currently most needed and then we update the donation poster, sometimes putting in photos of food suggestions. We take donations over to the BFC whenever the baskets get full. We have a folding grocery cart, and people can take whatever they can over to the BFC. The BFC is located at the Brookside School building on Idlewood Rd off Evans Lane, from Westfall Rd - the back door opens at 7am. For heavy items, we have the option of storing them in a closet at St T's then we can request they come pick donations up. It's a fun and meaningful ministry/outreach. I got involved because I believed we could contribute healthier food. Sincerely, Lisa Hand
